Deadpool & Wolverine has made an impressive start by going past the opening pre-ticket sales of Joker and previous Deadpool movies. Living up to the expectation, it has already created new records for selling the highest number of tickets in advanced sales.
Deadpool & Wolverine breaks R-rated presale ticket records
The introduction of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will revive the MCU after The Marvels as Deadpool & Wolverine is looking to break the bank at the domestic and worldwide box office. Its tickets went on sale on Monday, May 20, which led to high traffic on all online booking websites.
Deadpool & Wolverine is Fandango’s biggest first-day ticket seller in 2024 and has beaten the past two Deadpool movies. It ranked #1 on Fandango’s most anticipated movies of 2024. Now, the Merc with a Mouth is proving that with its ticket sales.
Adding to Fandango’s sales, AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron revealed that over 200,000 fans bought Deadpool & Wolverine’s tickets on May 20. These numbers are the highest for any R-rated movie. Furthermore, Deadpool & Wolverine even goes past Joker, which currently holds the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie worldwide.
Given the anticipation that Wolverine and Deadpool’s team-up and MCU debut holds, the duo can snatch the number one spot from Joker at the worldwide box office, despite being limited to an R-rated audience. It will also be aided by its short runtime.
It is the longest Deadpool movie to date. But, the runtime isn’t even close to other successful MCU crossovers. These include Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which are all around 150-180 minutes long.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s 127-minute-long runtime will allow theaters to add an extra screening per day compared to previous MCU juggernauts. It raises its chances to win and beat all the previous R-rated movies.
Helmed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive theatrically on July 26, 2024.
