Mars Express Blu-ray Release Date Set for Sci-Fi Animated Movie

GKIDS has finally set the Mars Express Blu-ray and digital release date for its latest critically-acclaimed French sci-fi animated movie. This comes after the film had recently made its U.S. theatrical debut last May 3.

When is the Mars Express Blu-ray and digital release date?

Mars Express will be available to rent or own on all major digital platforms starting on Tuesday, June 18. On the same day, the film will also be released on Blu-ray, which will include three special features listed below:

  • Let’s Play Classic Games with Director Jérémie Périn
  • Director Scene Breakdown – Opening Scene
  • Director Scene Breakdown – Sequence 87

“Society’s elite abandon Earth in 2200 to make Mars the center of civilization. They are served by obedient robots that are nearly indistinguishable from the humans that they have replaced,” reads the synopsis. “Amidst a growing scandal of an underground group hacking androids, a cybernetics student disappears. Capable-but-troubled detective Aline and her android partner, Carlos, take the case to find her. As they descend into the dark underbelly of Mars, they unravel a deeper conspiracy that threatens mankind – and their robot counterparts.”

Mars Express was directed by French filmmaker Jérémie Périn from a screenplay he co-wrote with Laurent Sarfati. The film features the voices of Léa Drucker as Aline Ruby, Mathieu Amalric as Chris Royjacker, Marthe Keller as Beryl, Marie Bouvet as Roberta Williams, Daniel Njo Lobé as Carlos Rivera, Sébastien Chassagne as Inspector Simon Gordaux and Geneviève Doang as Jun Chow. Following its world premiere last year at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, the neo-noir movie received César and Lumière Award nominations for Best Animated Film, as well as an audience award at the 2023 Fantasy Film Fest.
