Universal Pictures has pushed back the release date for The Black Phone 2 starring Ethan Hawke as The Grabber.
Per Deadline, The Black Phone 2 will now be released in United States theaters on Friday, October 17, 2025. There are currently no other films that are scheduled to be released on the same day; although, the Jared Leto-starring Tron: Ares hits theaters one week before on October 10, 2025.
The Blumhouse movie was originally supposed to open on June 27, 2025, which is now when the still-untitled Formula One movie starring Brad Pitt will be released.

The Black Phone 2 was announced in October 2023. According to Deadline, Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora will all return to star in the forthcoming horror sequel.
Plot details for The Black Phone 2 remain under wraps at this time. Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are returning to write and produce the sequel with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, though it’s unclear whether or not Derrickson will again direct the movie.
The Black Phone was released in United States theaters in June 2022. Directed by Derrickson, it proved to be a huge hit for Universal Pictures, bringing in approximately $161.4 million at the global box office off an estimated $16-18 million budget.
“The film tells the story of Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement,” reads the official synopsis. “When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”
