A sequel to 2024’s Road House is in the works.
Per Variety, Amazon Prime Video has announced that Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise his role as Dalton in a sequel to 2024’s Road House.
“As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called Road House,” Amazon MGM Studio’s Jennifer Salke said during a presentation to advertisers on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. “Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched Roadhouse. We like to watch these results like a baby.”
Plot details for Road House 2 remain under wraps at this time. A release date has not yet been set.
What was 2024’s Road House about?
A remake of the 1989 movie of the same name directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Road House was released on Amazon Prime Video in March 2024.
“In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems,” reads the remake’s synopsis.
The film was directed by Doug Liman, who is known for making 2002’s The Bourne Identity, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow, and more. It is not yet known whether or not Liman will return to direct the forthcoming sequel.
Along with Gyllenhaal, the film stars Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, B.K. Cannon, and Joaquim de Almeida.
Road House was a huge hit for Amazon Prime Video as, according to the company, it has “attracted nearly 80 million worldwide viewers to date.”
The 1989 version of Road House notably had a direct-to-DVD sequel that was released in 2006. Dalton didn’t return to star in Road House 2; rather, it was led by Jonathon Schaech playing a character named Shane Tanner.
The 2024 version of Road House is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
