Black Bear and Stampede Ventures announced on Monday that Jason Statham will star in an upcoming action thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur.
The currently untitled film will be written by Ward Parry, with Kormákur (2 Guns, Everest, Contraband) helming the project behind the camera. Statham will star in the film as Mason, a man who lives alone in isolation on a Scottish island.
“When he rescues a young girl from the ocean in a terrible storm, he sets a chain of events in motion that brings a violent attack to his hideaway, forcing him back into the world to confront the ghosts of his past,” reads the film’s logline.
The untitled picture is set to begin filming later this year
Principal photography is set to begin on the project in November, with filming set to take place in the United Kingdom and Iceland. Statham will produce the project for Punch Palace Productions. Other producers on the film include Kormákur, John Friedberg, Jon Berg, and Greg Silverman. Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler are attached as executive producers.
“The combination of Jason’s unparalleled skill in explosive action and track record in the genre, with Balt’s elevated, kinetic filmmaking style that always keeps character and story in the foreground is undeniable,” said Black Bear’s John Friedberg. “We’re thrilled to bring this new action franchise to life with such talented partners as Balt and Jason and can’t wait to introduce the world to Michael Mason.”
Statham most recently starred in the 2024 action movie The Beekeeper, and will next star in the 2025 action thriller Levon’s Trade from director David Ayer. That film will also feature David Harbour, Michael Peña, Jason Flemyng, and more.
Kormákur’s latest film was 2022’s Beast, starring IDris Elba and Iyana Halley.
