Reports suggest that the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes box office has begun strongly in North America. With the domestic box office expected to perform well over the weekend, the opening numbers will be bolstered even further.
Early Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ box office results are in
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Thursday night previews have reportedly posted a solid performance, kicking things off with $6.5 million ahead of the weekend. This total also includes the $1.6 million the Wednesday fan screenings posted, per Deadline.
With many people attending early screenings, Wes Ball’s latest Planet of the Apes outing has already bested its predecessors’ preview nights.
War for the Planet of the Apes brought in $5 million through previews, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes only made $4.25 million. We’ll soon be able to figure out if Kingdom will beat previous movies’ Friday and overall weekend totals.
Will the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes be a success?
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is poised to succeed with a strong opening and a smaller budget. According to its early projections, it will make between $54-61 million during its opening weekend. While that is less than Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ opening of $72 million, it’s along the lines of War for the Planet of the Apes ($56 million) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($54.8 million).
More importantly, its budget is reportedly around $120 million. As confirmed by director Wes Ball, it is far less than the previous two Apes outings. Hence, the chances for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to turn a profit for Disney look promising. However, predictions for its international numbers are yet to be revealed.
