The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl Cast Adds North West, Heather Headley & More

Disney has officially enlisted three more cast members to its upcoming live-to-film concert event, The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl, which will be held on May 24 and May 25 in celebration of the original animated movie’s 30th anniversary. It will then be available for streaming at a later date on Disney+.

Kanye West and Kim Kardarshian’s eldest daughter North West has joined the event alongside Grammy winner Heather Headley and original Lion King composer Lebo M. They will be joining previously announced cast Jeremy Irons (Scar, 1994), Nathan Lane (Timon, 1994), Billy Eichner (Timon, 2019), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa, 1994), Jason Weaver (Young Simba, 1994), Bradley Gibson (Simba, Broadway), and special guest Jennifer Hudson. They will be performing select numbers for the first time at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring the Broadway show’s award-winning and artistically acclaimed costumes, set design, and puppetry.

What to expect from The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl?

“In The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl, fans will experience life in the Pride Lands as a full orchestra performs Hans Zimmer’s rousing award-winning musical score led by conductor Sarah Hicks. Immersive live performances of the beloved songs written by Sir Elton John and lyricist Sir Tim Rice — including ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight,’ ‘Circle Of Life,” “Be Prepared” and ‘Hakuna Matata,'” reads the synopsis.

It is produced by Disney Branded Television and Fulwell 73 Productions as they reunite to capture the magic of these performances in the second music concert installment in their franchise. The special will celebrate the 30-year evolution of The Lion King, from the original 1994 animated film to the 1998 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical to the 2019 dramatic live-action film. The concert hails from creative showrunners Gabe Turner and Sally Wood, along with director Paul Dugdale and production designer Misty Buckley.
