47 Meters Down: The Wreck in the Works

47 Meters Down: The Wreck, a third installment in the shark horror series, is in the works from veteran horror director Patrick Lussier according to Deadline.

Series creator Johannes Roberts has co-written The Wreck alongside Ernest Riera, having written the previous two entries. FilmNation is looking to launch worldwide sales at Cannes next week.

47 Meters Down: The Wreck Details

The story of 47 Meters Down: The Wreck will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba dive in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. Soon after their descent, their master diver had an accident, leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks.

“We can’t wait for audiences to be trapped underwater with us again,” said filmmaker Johannes Roberts in a statement. “47 Meters Down: The Wreck is going to be the biggest, most intense film of this franchise.”

The 47 Meters Down series has been a quietly successful one on the commercial front, if not critically, with small budgets ensuring a healthy $109 million box office haul between the 2017 original starring Mandy Moore and the 2019 sequel 47 Meters Down Uncaged; both of which were directed by Roberts before he helmed Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Director Patrick Lussier has helmed the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry, Trick, and Dracula 2000, but he’s also served as an editor on the Scream franchise, Halloween H20, Mimic, Red Eye, and Doctor Who: The Movie.
