Paul Thomas Anderson Movie Inspired by Cult ’80s Movie
The plot was originally reported by Deadline as having ”a contemporary setting and it is the most commercial one that PTA has attempted, with a commensurate budget.” Operating under the working title “BC Project,” the movie began filming near the end of January 2024.
But World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy has reported that filming stopped and then resumed under a new working title. Ruimy also provided fresh details on the story having sci-fi elements with Anderson influenced by the cult 1984 movie Repo Man as well as the previously reported inspiration of Vineland.
The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti. Penn and Haim both starred in Anderson’s last movie, Licorice Pizza.
Anderson also wrote the script for the movie and serves as a producer alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie is set to be released by Warner Bros on August 8, 2025.
