While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson — who played Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart in the trilogy — hints at a potential fourth installment to the musical comedy.
The first Pitch Perfect film hit theaters in 2012, followed by Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015, and the last one was released in 2017. Now, over a decade after the third one’s release, Wilson spoke with BBC Radio 2‘s Gaby Roslin to provide an exciting update about Pitch Perfect 4.
While she is completely unaware of where the story will go next, considering the original cast members are “older now,” the actress is certain that something in the franchise is being developed.
“Hopefully, there’s a fourth one in the works. There is one being developed […] I know we’re older now, so I don’t exactly know what the storyline’s going to be. I guess they’ve got to get the script right first, which is the age-old dilemma,” said Wilson.
She added, “I absolutely loved making those movies. We’re all still friends, all of us girls – they’re just so joyful. I think what people see on the screen is just us having a laugh. It wasn’t really acting because I love singing and dancing, and I just loved hanging out with that cast so, so much. It was really fun.”
Who else starred in the Pitch Perfect trilogy?
Throughout Pitch Perfect’s three installments, the franchise has centered on the female a cappella group The Barden Bellas, from their inception and participation in college music competitions to winning a national title and figuring out their respective lives beyond their musical passion.
In addition to Wilson, the franchise also featured Anna Kendrick as Beca Mitchell, Anna Camp as Aubrey Posen, Brittany Snow as Chloe Beale, Ester Dean as Cynthia Rose Adams, Alexis Knapp as Stacie Conrad, Hana Mae Lee as Lilly Onakuramara, Hailee Steinfeld as Emily Junk, Elizabeth Banks as Gail Abernathy-McKadden, Ben Platt as Benji Applebaum, Adam DeVine as Bumper Allen, Skylar Astin as Jesse Swanson, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Donald, and more.
