According to Deadline, Emmy winner Keke Palmer and Grammy winner SZA have signed on for the leading roles in an untitled buddy comedy, which will be produced by Insecure’s Issa Rae. Further details about their characters and the plot remained under wraps.
This won’t be the first time that Palmer and SZA were first seen onscreen together. The duo previously appeared in an episode of Saturday Night Live over a year ago.
Who’s involved in the untitled project?
The untitled buddy comedy will be directed by Lawrence Lamont from a screenplay written by Syreeta Singleton. The creative duo is best known for their work on the Rap Sh!t series, where Rae also served as the creator and executive producer. The film will be produced by Rae, Singleton, Sara Diya Rastogi, Deniese Davis, and Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks. In addition to starring, Palmer will also be executive producing alongside Sharon Palmer through their Big Boss banner.
The upcoming movie marks SZA’s acting debut. The award-winning singer is best known for her hit songs “Snooze,” “Kill Bill,” “Nobody Gets Me,” and more. In 2019, SZA nabbed her first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song in recognition for her “All the Stars” with Kendrick Lamar from the Black Panther soundtrack.
Meanwhile, Keke Palmer was most recently seen in Jennifer Lopez’s Prime Video movie This Is Me… Now: A Love Story. Besides the upcoming comedy, she is also currently attached to star in two high-profile project, including Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune with Keanu Reeves, and the heist film The Pickup with Eddie Murphy.
