Kate Beckinsale, Scott Eastwood, and James Cromwell will star in Stolen Girl, an upcoming thriller directed by James Kent. According to Variety, pre-production has begun in the Apulia region of Southern Italy.
Stolen Girl is inspired by Maureen Dabbagh, an American woman who embarked on a yearslong pursuit of her daughter after the young girl had been abducted by the child’s father and taken to the Middle East.
What to Expect in Stolen Girl?
Stolen Girl’s synopsis via Variety reads: “It’s 1993 in Ohio, and Maureen’s 6-year-old daughter Amina is snuck out of the country by her ex-husband, Karim. After years of unsuccessful attempts to find her, Maureen intersects with a professional retriever of internationally abducted kids who promises to help her find Amina in exchange for her collaboration. Maureen eventually succeeds in tracking down her ex-husband and Amina in Beirut, where she will face the most difficult decision of her life.”
Kent (Testament of Youth, The Aftermath) will direct Stolen Girl from a script by Rebecca Pollock and Kas Graham. Kent recently directed two episodes of Showtime’s Fellow Travelers.
Producers include Andrea Iervolino, Monika Bacardi, Frida Torresblanco, Scott Lambert, and Luca Matrundola. Voltage Pictures will produce, with Italy’s ILBE listed as an executive producer. Most of the principal photography will be shot in Italy, with filming expected to begin soon.
“I’m thrilled to be shooting once again in Apulia, a versatile land that I love and that always manages to cater to our needs,” Iervolino said in a statement.
Beckinsale’s recent credits include Charlie Day’s Fool’s Paradise and Catherine Hardwicke’s Prisoner’s Daughter. Eastwood starred in 2023’s Fast X and will next star in Wind River: The Next Chapter, the sequel to 2017’s Wind River. Meanwhile, the Emmy Award-winning Cromwell is one of the stars of Apple TV+’s mystery drama, Sugar.
