Furiosa: Anya Taylor-Joy Reveals Advice She Received From Fury Road Star

Anya Taylor-Joy is headlining the next Mad Mad film, Furiosa, as Imperator Furiosa. Stepping into the lead role in George Miller’s iconic franchise can be intimidating. Luckily, Taylor-Joy could turn to her co-star in The Menu, Nicholas Hoult, for advice. Hoult starred in Mad Max: Fury Road, so he knows a thing or two about working for Miller and handling the challenges of a Mad Max film.

“These movies are big, colossal beasts, and it’s a type of filmmaking where it’s all stitched together so surgically that you can feel a bit lost in it,” Taylor-Joy revealed to Total Film when describing Furiosa. Taylor-Joy leaned on Hoult for advice on how to approach the role. The Fury Road star kept it short and sweet.

Hoult told Taylor-Joy to “trust George,” advising the actress to put her faith in Miller, the architect of the Max Max franchise.

While preparing for Furiosa, Taylor-Joy added that she would watch the beginning of Fury Road “over and over again just to understand how all of it worked.”

What to Expect in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga?

Taylor-Joy stars as Imperator Furiosa, the role originally played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a prequel set 15-20 years before the events in Fury Road.

The official synopsis reads: “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

Besides Taylor-Joy, Furiosa stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, John Howard, Angus Sampson, Charlee Fraser, Nathan Jones, and Lachy Hulme as Immortan Joe.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is directed by Miller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. Miller is also a producer on Furiosa alongside Doug Mitchell.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga arrives in theaters on May 24, 2024.
