Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian have offered updates regarding The Life of Chuck.
Responding to a comment in his Letterboxd review for 2024’s The First Omen, Flanagan confirmed that The Life of Chuck, a new horror movie directed by the Midnight Mass creator based on a Stephen King novella, has now finished post-production.
The Life of Chuck does not yet have a release date; however, the movie finished filming in November 2023, meaning it could potentially be released later this year.
Late Night with the Devil’s Dastmalchian stars in the movie alongside Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, Harvey Guillén, Kate Siegel, Carl Lumbly, Rahul Kohli, Violet McGraw, Molly Quinn, and Heather Lagenkamp.
Dastmalchian told Gizmodo about the film, per GamesRadar, “It’s beautiful. You think, ‘Oh, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you’ve ever seen.’ [But] it is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt, the drama, the performances.”
He continued, “The cast in this is deep. [Matthew] Lillard has a moment in this film that just breaks my heart. Karen Gillan, another one who I think rides that incredible ski slope between her small indie art films and then big studio budgeted things. One of the best actors in Hollywood right now. Kate Siegel, I mean there are so [many] great people! Ah, what a joy.”
What is The Life of Chuck about?
“This film is based on the novella that is presented in reverse order,” the description of the movie reads. “Chuck travels backwards in time viewing his life after dying. In viewing past events, he becomes obsessed with a former student that might have a special gift.”
The Life of Chuck was published in 2020’s If It Bleeds alongside three other novellas, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, If It Bleeds, and Rat.
