The release of the first official Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has given fans a good look at Emma Corrin’s villainous character Cassandra Nova. Next to Wolverine, the reported big bad of the film took the spotlight in the trailer.
The previous Super Bowl teaser only gave a brief glimpse of Corrin’s X-Men villain. But new footage from the film delivers a good look at her abilities as well.
Deadpool & Wolverine trailer debuts Cassandra Nova’s powers
The Crown star Emma Corrin was initially cast in Deadpool & Wolverine in an undisclosed role. The role was later revealed to be Cassandra Nova. The character is closely tied to the X-Men leader, Professor Charles Xavier, as she is his twin sister and a darker counterpart.
In Marvel comics, she copied Charles’ DNA in the womb to become his twin. So, besides telepathy, she possesses multiple powers including telekinesis, and the ability to mimic the DNA of other mutants. The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer implies that Marvel will stay true to her comic book abilities as her telekinetic prowess is briefly shown.
She will be a formidable foe as Logan was seemingly no match for her. She was easily able to use his strength against him with her telekinesis. Even teaming up with Deadpool may not be enough, and the two protagonists could have a tough time defeating her. So, her abilities may not just pose a threat to one universe, but the entire multiverse.
Her motivations, however, have not been revealed as the latest trailer did not dive into her backstory. Future promotional footage for Deadpool & Wolverine could reveal why she poses a threat to the TVA and the multiverse.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, besides Corrin’s villain. It also features returning characters, including Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Rob Delaney as Peter, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
