MaXXXine MPA Rating Reveals ‘Graphic Nudity’ and More

Shocking absolutely no one, A24’s MaXXXine — a follow-up feature to Ti West’s acclaimed X and Pearl — received an “R” MPA rating due to its “strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language, and drug use.”

Following the release of MaXXXine’s first trailer, which reintroduces the aspiring actress first seen in X, the MPA rating for the third installment (via BloodyDisgusting) teases what audiences should expect once the film hits theaters on July 5, 2024.

Audiences last saw Maxine (Mia Goth) in 2022’s X as the sole survivor from the elderly couple’s killing spree in the summer of ‘79. In the same year, Goth starred in the second installment — titled Pearl — in which she portrayed the younger version of Pearl. Although Pearl and Maxine are completely different characters (played by the same actress), they both share an insatiable desire to become stars.

What is MaXXXine about?

Set in 1985, six years after the blood-filled events from the first film, MaXXXine will see the return of Goth as an aspiring actress trying her best shot in Hollywood. However, just after she got her big break, a Night Stalker started to orchestrate a series of murders — a situation Maxine is no stranger to. Now, her chances to make it big may slowly dwindle as memories from her past start to threaten her present.

“In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past,” the official synopsis for MaXXXine reads.

Apart from Goth, MaXXXine also stars Halsey, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Giancarlo Esposito, and Bobby Cannavale.

MaXXXine will be released in theaters on July 5, 2024.
