Alison Brie says she’s read the script for the long-awaited Community movie.
Appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, per Deadline, Brie said that she’s read the script for the forthcoming Community movie. The film follows the events of the fan-favorite NBC show, which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015.
“We’ve got a script, which is a major update,” Brie said. “We got a script — you heard it here first.”
Brie added, “I’ve read the script, and it’s so funny.”
Regarding her Community character, Annie Edison, Brie said, “I hope that Annie hasn’t changed too much because I loved her just the way she was.”
What do we know about the Community movie?
In September 2022, Peacock announced that it was officially moving forward with a Community movie, written by Dan Harmon and Andrew Guest. Along with Brie, the film will welcome back the series’ main cast, including Joel McHale as Jeff Winger, Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Yvette Nicole Brown as Shirley Bennett, Donald Glover as Troy Barnes, Jim Rash as Craig Pelton, and Ken Jeong as Ben Chang. Chevy Chase will not be in the movie.
Production for the Community movie was delayed in 2023 because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. McHale told Deadline in March 2024 that, while plans largely depend on Glover’s schedule, he’s expecting the movie to begin filming sometime this year.
Plot details for the film remain largely under wraps; although, Glover told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2024 that it will center around a “college reunion” and Abed will be a “big director” who is creating his magnum opus.
The Community movie does not yet have an official release date. All six seasons of Community, however, are currently streaming on Peacock.
