Reacher star Alan Ritchson has said he would “love” to play Batman amid much speculation regarding who will take over the role in the rebooted DC Universe.
Ritchson, who made his acting debut as Aquaman in the superhero series Smallville, has been at the top of many fans’ lists to take on the role of the Dark Knight in the DCU. The actor has thrown his hat into the ring, saying that he will “shout it from the rooftops” that he wants to be Bruce Wayne.
The actor made the comments during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he was asked his thoughts on whether he’d want to portray Batman or the Joker. Ritchson provided a very clear-cut response to the question:
“Joaquin Phoenix crushed it, there’s no following that. I would love to play Batman. There, I said it, okay?! I’ll shout it from the rooftops! I want to be Bruce Wayne!
Ritchson also noted how the allure of Batman is that his “superpower” is “intelligence,” calling him the “smartest superhero there is.”

Although Ritchson’s comments will certainly please those advocating for the Reacher star to become the Caped Crusader in the DCU, it’s unknown if he will actually take over the role.
DC Studios co-president and co-CEO James Gunn is working on an upcoming Batman feature titled The Brave and the Bold, the hero’s first foray into the new and rebooted DCU following the downfall of the DC Extended Universe, in which Ben Affleck portrayed the Dark Knight. The cast for this movie has yet to be revealed, with there being few available details regarding its production.
The Brave and the Bold will not be related to Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy, which stars Robert Pattinson in the title role. Instead, the upcoming movie will feature a brand new take on Bruce Wayne, with there inevitably being much discussion surrounding who will take on the role. Ritchson’s name has repeatedly been mentioned by fans, as has the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal.
