Irish actors have been blowing Hollywood away with their magnificent talent lately. Cork native Cillian Murphy was among the 2024 Academy Award winners for his performance in Oppenheimer. Irish talent Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal impressed the BAFTAs with six nominations for All of Us Strangers. Now, Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell gives his praise for the rise of Irish talent he’s seen recently.
Ireland has given Hollywood amazing on-screen talents like Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal, Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, and more. With Irish talent growing in Hollywood lately, Cork native Colin Farrell told Entertainment Tonight how amazing this was for Ireland.
“I mean, we punch so far above our weight, you know? We’re only a country of five million people and I don’t know, Irish people — just whether it’s through music, the written word, whether it’s prose of poetry, film, theater of course, we just — we have a deep connection to,” said Farrell. “I think just to the importance of story and to leaning into stories and meanings with which we understand ourselves and the world around us.”
This praise was based on his Intermission co-star Cillian Murphy making history as the first Irish-born actor to win an Oscar for Oppenheimer.
Colin Farrell also needed to point out another co-star of his, Barry Keoghan. He’s been in major motion pictures like Marvel‘s Eternals and one of the most talked-about-films Saltburn. Keoghan also starred alongside Austin Butler in the WWII miniseries Masters of the Air. After he and Farrell worked together in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Banshees of Inisherin, the Oscar nominee spoke of how impressed he was at the young Dublin actor’s career trajectory.
“Barry’s off to the races. He’s killing it, he’s doing amazing.”
What are Colin Farrell’s Upcoming Projects?
Besides Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell has an Apple TV+ series of his own coming on April 5th called Sugar. This noir-inspired drama is about a private investigator looking for the missing granddaughter of a famous Hollywood producer. Through his search, he unravels secrets about the producer’s family that send everything into a tailspin. It was the show’s deep focus on the film noir genre that made Farrell very interested in this project.
The Minority Report actor will also co-star with Margot Robbie in the fantasy romance A Big Bold Beautiful Journey about the journey two strangers take with each other. You also can’t forget Farrell will reprise his antagonist The Batman role in his HBO Max solo series The Penguin.
