During a recent interview with Comic Book Movie, Fright Krewe co-creator James Frey, who co-wrote the popular I Am Number Four novel under the pseudonym of Pittacus Lore, gave fans an update about the current status of his Lorien Legacies franchise.
After over a decade since the theatrical debut of Disney’s I Am Number Four movie, Frey confirmed that producer Neal Moritz is currently working with Smallville and Wednesday showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar on a reboot of his 2010 sci-fi novel. The writing duo were the original scribes of the 2011 movie adaptation, which received negative reviews from fans and critics.
“Neal Moritz is producing a version of it that was written by the original writers, who just made Wednesday,” Frey said. “So, we are in process on it and I can’t say whether it will actually ever get made or not, but I have great people I’m working with who are trying to make it happen, for sure.”
What is I Am Number Four about?
Publised in 2010, I Am Number Four is the first installment of the Lorien Legacies novel series. The story begins with John Smith, who was one of the nine super-powered survivors of an alien race who escaped from the evil Mogadorians to Earth. The film adaptation starred Alex Pettyfer as John Smith/Number Four, Teresa Palmer as Number Six, Callan McAuliffe as Sam Goode, Timothy Olyphant as Henri, Dianna Agron as Sarah Hart, Jake Abel as Mark James and Kevin Durand as a Mogadorian soldier.
The book’s official synopsis reads: “Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing. But they know. They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They killed them all. I am Number Four. I am next.”
