Searchlight Pictures is reportedly moving forward with Ready or Not 2, the follow-up to 2019’s Samara weaving horror comedy.
It won’t be calling on the services of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett this time, however, and instead will look to Escape Room director Adam Robitel. Samara Weaving may well return however.
Ready or Not 2 Coming Out of Hiding
Ready or Not was a modest horror hit for Searchlight in 2019. Costing just $6 million to make, it made a respectable $57 million worldwide. So a sequel was always a possibility, especially if the charismatic Weaving could be convinced to come back.
In the first film, Weaving’s Grace has just married into a wealthy family, and on her wedding night, the in-laws have a very different sort of ritual in mind to mark the occasion as she is coerced into a sadistic game of hide-and-seek.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are set to take on producing roles alongside Chad Villella. There’s uncertainty over who is writing Ready or Not 2, but it’s expected to be the return of original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.
So what would Ready or Not 2 be getting in Adam Robitel? Well, he’s got a horror history, debuting with 2014’s The Taking of Deborah Logan, writing and directing for Blumhouse with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Insidious: The Last Key, respectively. He’s no stranger to making horror hits on a budget either, having made $220 million with the two Escape Room movies on a combined budget of just $24 million.
Samara Weaving has a busy schedule right now with roles in E.L. Katz’s horror Azrael, thriller Borderline, and Netflix series Little Sky, but given how much horror fans enjoyed her performance in Ready or Not, there’s every chance she’d like to return to the character of Grace.
