According to Deadline, Reservation Dogs star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai has officially been cast for the leading role in Alex Garland‘s next war drama movie titled Warfare.
He will be joining previously announced cast member Charles Melton (May December). Prior to landing the lead role, Woon-A-Tai was actually one of the actors who were reportedly in negotiations for the project. It remains unclear if Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, Kit Connor and Cosmo Jarvis are still in talks to join the cast.
Who’s involved in Warfare?
Warfare will be co-directed and written by Garland and Ray Mendoza. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps, but Woon-A-Tai is said to playing Mendoza which might mean that the film would probably be based off on true events. This marks the young actor’s first major movie project as the lead. It will be produced by Peter Rice along with DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.
Mendoza served as the technical and military advisor on multiple action movies such as Lone Survivor, Mile 22, Jurassic World and Garland’s upcoming Civil War movie. Before venturing into the filmmaking industry, the Navy veteran served for over 16 years as a Member of Seal Team 5 and a Land Warfare Training Detachment and BUD/s instructor.
