Star Trek 4 Gets New Writer as Paramount Continues Development

Though the last entry in the newer series of Star Trek movies came out back in 2016, a new writer has joined the upcoming Star Trek 4.

Variety has reported that Steve Yockey — the creator of the Kaley Cuoco-led Max series The Flight Attendant — has joined the Paramount sequel as a screenwriter. At this point, little is known about the plot of Star Trek 4, though it will apparently be the conclusion of the rebooted film series that began with 2009’s Star Trek.

In early 2022, during Paramount’s Investors Day Presentation, producer J.J. Abrams confirmed that Star Trek 4 was indeed in active development with the original cast expected to return including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg. As of the now, the project currently has no director attached to it after WandaVision’s Matt Shakman exited the movie due to scheduling conflicts with Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.

What other Star Trek projects are coming out?

The final 10 episodes of the television series Star Trek Discovery are set to release next month, with a new trailer for the remaining episodes of Season 5 having dropped last month. The cast of the series includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala, Blu del Barrio, and Callum Keith Rennie. Season 5 also features recurring guest stars Elias Toufexis and Eve Harlow.
