Releasing in March 2024 from Brainstorm Media, The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane is a new true crime documentary about a British backpacker who was tragically murdered in New Zealand while on a Tinder date in 2018.

What is The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane about?
“The headline-grabbing murder of 21-year-old British backpacker Grace Millane while on a solo holiday in New Zealand is examined in this confronting documentary that explores how the shocking case highlighted disturbing attitudes about violence towards women,” the official synopsis reads.
The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane is directed by Helena Coan, who previously directed 2019’s Chasing Perfect and 2021’s Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story. Coan co-wrote the script with Matthew Metcalfe and Tom Blackwell, with Metcalfe and Blackwell also both serving as producers on the documentary.
“Watching something so innocent evolve into something so abhorrent is a deeply unsettling experience, but one that I hope raises difficult, necessary questions and challenges our preconceptions about violence against women,” Coan said in a statement about The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane in January 2024, via The Hollywood Reporter.
Brainstorm Media CEO Michelle Shwarzstein added, “This chilling tale makes for a psychologically fascinating documentary. Lovers of the genre will appreciate the never-before-seen footage as well as Coan’s considerate telling of the investigation and subsequent trial.”
The Lie: The Murder of Grace Millane releases in select United States theaters and On Demand on March 29, 2024, from Brainstorm Media.
