David Ayer Directing New Paramount Movie, Heart of the Beast, With Damien Chazelle Producing

David Ayer has been tapped to direct a new movie for Paramount Pictures, Heart of the Beast.

Per Deadline, Ayer has signed on to direct Heart of the Beast, which will be produced by Whiplash and La La Land’s Damien Chazelle, for Paramount.

“The story follows a former Navy SEAL and his retired combat dog who attempt to return to civilization after a catastrophic accident deep in the Alaskan wilderness,” Deadline’s article reads.

Ayer will produce Heart of the Beast alongside Chris Long. The script comes from Cameron Alexander, who also serves as an executive producer. Richard Raymond is co-producing the film.

No casting announcements have been made for Heart of the Beast at this time.

What movies has David Ayer made in the past?

Ayer got his start in Hollywood by writing screenplays for movies such as 2000’s U-571, 2001’s Training Day, 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, 2002’s Dark Blue, and 2003’s S.W.A.T. He made his feature film directorial debut in 2005 with Harsh Times before he then went on to make 2008’s Street Kings, 2012’s End of Watch, 2014’s Sabotage, and 2014’s Fury.

Ayer then directed Suicide Squad in 2016 for DC Studios; although, he’s publicly spoken about how he’s unhappy with how the final cut of the film turned out.

Following that, Ayer made Bright for Netflix in 2017 and 2020’s The Tax Collector. His most recent movie was The Beekeeper, which starred Jason Statham, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons. The Beekeeper was released in United States theaters in January 2024 and made approximately $152.6 million at the global box office off of an estimated budget of $40 million.

A release date for Heart of the Beast has not yet been set by Paramount Pictures.
