Iconic actor Nicolas Cage has given a National Treasure 3 update in regards to whether a new entry in the Disney heist movie series could still happen.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Cage was asked about whether or not National Treasure 3 could happen in the future. The star, who played the main character Benjamin Franklin Gates in both movies, was blunt about the chances, revealing that it’s just not happening.
“Here we go! See, you’re the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else,” Cage said. “No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
Jeremy Bruckheimer gave his own update about National Treasure 3 around the time of National Treasure: Edge of History’s Disney+ premiere, stating that a third movie was “ongoing.” This seems to contrast with Cage’s new and decidedly less optimistic update, though it’s worth noting that Edge of History was cancelled after one season.
When did the last National Treasure movie come out?
The most recent National Treasure movie to be released was National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which debuted in theaters on December 21, 2007. Directed by Jon Turteltaub and written by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, the film starred Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, Ed Harris, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Bruce Greenwood, and Helen Mirren.
