Back to Black’s Marisa Abela is joining Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Rege-Jean Page in Steven Soderbergh’s new movie, Black Bag.
Per Deadline, Abela has officially joined the cast of Black Bag, a new thriller being directed by Soderbergh.
Black Bag is written by David Koepp, while Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs serve as producers.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for Black Bag at this time, though Deadline describes the movie as a “spy thriller.”
Black Bag is being released by Focus Features. The movie is expected to begin filming this summer.

Abela is known for starring in television series such as COBRA and Industry. She also played Teen Talk Barbie in 2023’s Barbie and will soon be seen portraying Amy Winehouse in the upcoming Back to Black biopic, which releases in the United States on May 17, 2024, from Focus Features.
Along with Black Bag, Soderbergh recently directed Presence, a psychological thriller starring Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, and West Mulholland. The film — which follows a family as they move into a new house — premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where it was acquired by Neon. A United States release date for Presence, which was also written by Koepp, has not been announced.
