Zooey Deschanel is set to star in an upcoming romantic comedy titled Merv for Amazon MGM Studios, according to a recent report from Deadline.
The film will be written by Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark, and will follow the story of an estranged couple that “learns that the dog they share is suffering from depression following their break-up, awkwardly reconciling over the holidays when they take their dog on a sunny vacation to Florida to lift his spirits.”
What do we know about Merv?
Jessica Swale (Summerland, Horrible Histories) is set to direct the film, while Matt Baer and Roma Downey are attached to the project as producers. Currently, no other casting information is available at this time.
For Deschanel, this will be her next project following her appearance in 2023’s Trolls Band Together. Deschanel also starred in the 2016 Trolls and its sequel, 2020’s Trolls World Tour. She’s best known for her starring role in films like (500) Days of Summer, as well as the hit Fox sitcom New Girl.
Her last live-action starring role in a movie came in 2022’s Dreamin’ Wild. She’s also been starring in the Apple TV+ series Physical, in which she appeared as Kelly in Season 3.
