Hot off of “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jack Black has confirmed he’ll again be singing in the upcoming Minecraft adaptation.
Speaking with Variety, Black revealed that he and Peacemaker’s Danielle Brooks will be singing in the forthcoming live-action Minecraft movie.
“I love Danielle Brooks,” Black said. “I’ve been a fan of hers ever since I first saw her on Orange Is the New Black, and she’s just been killing it in her career. And the fact that we’re working together on Minecraft is mind-blowing. And we’ve been having a ball in New Zealand, and I’m so proud of her going to the Oscars…I always tell her, ‘You’re the class of the cast,’ and she’s crushing it and can’t wait for you to see the movie.”
What do we know about the Minecraft movie?
Black is playing Steve in Warner Bros. Pictures Minecraft, which is being directed by Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre’s Jared Hess. The script was written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer.
Along with Black and Brooks, Minecraft stars Jason Momoa, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.
Plot details for Minecraft remain under wraps at this time. The movie is being produced by Mary Parent, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick, while Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts serve as executive producers.
A Minecraft movie, which is based on Mojang Studios’ popular video game from 2011, has been in the works for several years, with Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney having both been attached to direct the film at one point in time. Having been delayed because of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, Minecraft started filming in January 2024.
Minecraft is now scheduled to release in United States theaters on April 4, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
