Actor Ray Winstone has recently reflected on his time starring in the Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, calling the process of having to do reshoots “soul-destroying.”
Speaking to Radio Times about his time in the 2021 MCU film, Winstone said that production on the project was generally fine until it was time to do reshoots. Then, Winstone said, things became a lot less fun.
“It was fine until you have to do the reshoots,” Winstone said. “Then you find out that a few producers have come down, and your performance is too much, it’s too strong . . . That’s the way Marvel works. It can be soul-destroying because you feel like you’re doing great work.”
Winstone considered leaving the project at one point
Winstone said he even considered quitting the project due to the frustration he was experiencing during the film’s production.
“I actually said, ‘You ought to recast it because that was it for me,’” said Winstone. “And you end up doing it again because you’re contracted to do it. Otherwise you end up in court. It’s like being kicked in the balls.”
Winstone starred in Black Widow as Dreykov, a high-ranking officer in the Soviet Armed Forces who acts as the Red Room’s overseer and father figure to Taskmaster.
