According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has officially changed the Bad Boys 4 release date for the long-delayed next installment to the action-comedy franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
Originally scheduled for a June 14, 2024 release, the sequel will now arrive in theaters a week earlier on June 7, 2024. This comes after Smith recently confirmed that production on Bad Boys 4 has finally resumed, after temporarily getting delayed by last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike.
Bad Boys 4 Will Have More Comedy Than Prior Sequel
The untitled Bad Boys 4 movie is once again being directed by Bad Boys for Life filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay written by Chris Bremmer. Joining Smith and Lawrence in the new movie are returning cast members Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nunez, John Salley, and DJ Khaled. They will be joined by franchise newcomers Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, Joyner Lucas, Eric Dane, and Tasha Smith.
Further details about its plot are still under wraps. However, according to El Arbi, the upcoming sequel will have a less dramatic tone than the 2020 movie, promising “way more comedy” in the story. “The third one had the dramatic tone,” he said. “With this one, it’s really our purpose to get people laughing and having a good time in the theater. Martin is going to a higher level in this one. This is the culmination of the Marcus Burnett arc.”
