A planned series of feature film adaptations of Rick Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles is no longer moving forward at Netflix, according to the author.
Originally planned as a movie trilogy, The Kane Chronicles adaptations are apparently no longer being worked on. Riordan confirmed the news in a reply to a fan on the book-reading and cataloging website Goodreads.
“Right now, Kane Chronicles is in ‘turnaround,’ which means Netflix has decided not to move forward and their option has lapsed after trying for two years to develop a script they liked,” Riordan said (via Variety). “Now it depends on whether another studio would like to step in, assume the preproduction costs, and move forward.”
Riordan’s other series continues strong at Disney+
Adaptations of the hit books were originally announced in 2020. The trilogy of books were originally released in 2010 through 2012 and followed a pair of siblings who are powerful magicians descended from the pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great.
The series was set in the same universe as Rirordan’s other franchises, the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.
Outside of The Kane Chronicles, Riordan’s most notable work, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, was recently confirmed for a second season for its hit Disney+ series adaptation.
