The upcoming sequel to 2020’s Greenland, Greenland: Migration, will begin filming in April 2024.
Per Deadline, Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are both getting ready to film Greenland: Migration in the United Kingdom this April. Roman Waugh is returning to direct the movie, while the script comes from Chris Sparling and Mitchell Lafortune.
What is Greenland: Migration about?
“The Garrity family must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker after the comet ‘Clarke’ decimated the earth and the family embarks on a harrowing journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home,” Deadline’s description of the film reads.
Butler, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Sébastien Raybaud, John Zois, Alan Siegel, and Brendon Boyea are producing the movie, while Robert Simonds, Noah Fogelson, Sam Brown, Ric Roman Waugh, and Chris Sparling serve as executive producers.
“The success of Greenland showcased in a narratively and visually compelling way what one man will do to protect and provide for his family against the most cataclysmic of odds,” Brown, the president of STX Entertainment, said. “We could not be more excited to be continuing the Garrity’s harrowing story with Gerry, Morena, Ric, and all of our wonderful producers and partners around the world.”
“Working together again with our friends at ThunderRoad, Anton, Cinemachine, and STX is the ultimate experience. Gerry and I were blown away by the way in which we all bonded together seamlessly to produce a stunning first movie and we’re even more excited about our next adventure with the gang,” G-BASE’s Siegel added.
Greenland was originally intended to be released in theaters; however, the movie was delayed several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually debuted on video on demand. It still managed to gross approximately $52.3 million with an estimated production budget of $35 million.
Greenland is currently streaming on Max.
