Talk to Me 2: Sophie Wilde Unsure if She’ll Return for Sequel

A sequel to A24’s Talk to Me is officially in development. One of the film’s stars, Sophie Wilde, has expressed interest in returning for Talk to Me 2. However, Wilde is unsure if she’ll have the opportunity to return.

“I don’t know,” Wilde said to GamesRadar+. “I feel like it’s still a bit hush hush because I mean, the boys [Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou], they’re such workaholics. I know they’re focusing on a bunch of other projects that they’re doing at the moment. So I don’t know, it’s all up in the air.”

Talk to Me was a huge hit in 2023, grossing over $92 million worldwide on a rumored budget of $4.5 million. The supernatural horror is A24’s second highest-grossing film behind Everything Everywhere All at Once. Despite the uncertainty over her role in the sequel, Wilde wants to return for the next chapter.

“I said to them, I was like, ‘I’m gonna get actual FOMO if I’m not in this film, so can I just come on set and be like a boom operator? I will be an assistant director, I just want to be involved,'” Wilde said.

What to Expect in Talk to Me 2?

In August 2023, A24 officially greenlit Talk to Me 2, with brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, a.k.a. RackaRacka, returning to direct. Danny and Bill Hinzman, who co-wrote Talk to Me, will pen the sequel. A release date has not been announced. Besides a sequel, the Philippou brothers revealed a prequel film has already been shot.

Talk to Me starred Wilde as Mia, a teenager struggling to cope with the death of her mother. Looking for a distraction, Mia takes part in a mysterious séance with her friends. “When they discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand,” the official synopsis reads, “they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.”

Besides Wilde, Talk to Me’s cast featured Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, and Zoe Terakes.
