The first official Y2K photo for A24’s upcoming disaster comedy has been revealed ahead of its world premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival this March. It offers a preview of Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler’s unnamed character, who is at a party with It alum Jaeden Martell and Deadpool 2 star Julian Dennison.
“It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Two high school nobodies (Martell, Dennison) decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined,” reads the synopsis.
Who’s involved in Y2K?
Y2K is written and directed by Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter. Joining Zegler, Martell, and Dennison are Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Lachlan Watson (Chucky), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), Tim Heidecker (Us), Eduardo Franco (Booksmart, Stranger Things), Miles Robbins (Blockers), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street, The White Lotus), Daniel Zolghadri (Funny Pages), and rapper The Kid Laroi.
The project hails from Jonah Hill, who has signed on to produce the project through his Strong Baby banner. This marks Hill’s latest collaboration with A24 after previously working together in his feature directorial debut Mid90s. It is also produced by Winter, Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin, and Chris Storer (The Bear).
