Hollywood has lost an iconic actor, as Rocky and Predator star Carl Weathers has passed away at the age of 76.
Weathers’ family released a statement announcing that he passed away in his sleep on Thursday, February 1 — less than a month after his 76th birthday.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” they said in a statement (via Deadline). “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Prior to acting, Weathers played football for the Oakland Raiders. He then had an expansive career starting in the early 1970s. Over the years, some of Weathers’ most iconic performances were in films like Predator, the Rocky series, and Happy Gilmore. Additionally, the actor had memorable roles in television series like Chicago Justice, Arrested Development, and The Mandalorian. In addition to playing the character of Greef Karga, he also directed two episodes of The Mandalorian.
