What do we know about Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie?
On January 10, 2024, Deadline reported that Anderson’s new Warner Bros. movie would begin production on January 21, 2024. Along with DiCaprio, the movie will star Sean Penn and Reginal Hall.
The script is also written by Anderson, while plot details remain under wraps at this time. Deadline’s article states, “We have learned that it is a contemporary setting and it is the most commercial one that PTA has attempted, with a commensurate budget.”
DiCaprio is coming off of Killers of the Flower Moon, which was directed by Martin Scorsese and is currently streaming on Apple TV+. While DiCaprio, himself, didn’t receive an Oscar nod for playing Ernest Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon, the movie was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Actress in a Leading Role (Lily Gladstone), and Actor in a Supporting Role (Robert De Niro).
Anderson, meanwhile, is known for making movies such as 1997’s Boogie Nights, 1999’s Magnolia, 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, 2007’s There Will Be Blood, 2012’s The Master, 2014’s Inherent Vice, 2017’s Phantom Thread, and, most recent, 2021’s Licorice Pizza.
Anderson is also producing the new DiCaprio-starring movie, which does not yet have a release date, with Sara Murphy.
