Dune 2’s Timothée Chalamet Explains Importance Behind Sandworm-Riding Scene

Timothée Chalamet will soon return to Arrakis in Dune: Part Two. One of the most-anticipated scenes in the sequel is a sandworm-riding scene involving Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. In an interview with Total Film, the Dune 2 star explained the importance of the scene and how it affects the future of his character.

“Beyond being an exciting sequence in the movie, it represents a coming of age,” Chalamet said. “It’s where Paul’s supposed prophecy would fall flat, and it would mean his death if he can’t rise to the occasion. So the stakes of that moment are huge, and the doing of it was thrilling. It was industrial fans blowing sand, and a slab of worm was built. It was an amazing experience.”

What to Expect in Dune: Part Two?

“Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” the official synopsis reads. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Along with Chalamet, actors reprising their Dune roles for the sequel include Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. The notable additions to Dune: Part Two are Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.

Dune: Part Two is directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve, who directed Dune, will produce Dune: Part Two with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe, and Patrick McCormick. Dune is based on the groundbreaking 1965 novel by Frank Herbert.

Warner Bros. Pictures is set to release Dune: Part Two in theaters on March 1, 2024.
