The 2020 Mads Mikkelsen-led film Another Round is being remade, with comedian and actor Chris Rock set to direct it.
Deadline has reported that Rock will direct the upcoming remake of the Danish black comedy film, which won the 2021 Academy Award for Best International Film. Rock has experience as a director, having helmed 2007’s I Think I Love My Wife. 2014’s Top Five, an episode of the television series Everybody Hates Chris, and more.
The remake is a production of Appian Way and Makeready for Fifth Season. Leonardo DiCaprio is producing for the former alongside Jennifer Davisson, while Collin Creighton and Brad Weston are producing for the latter. A draft for the film was penned by Stuart Bloomberg, though a new writer will be coming in to work with Chris Rock.
The original movie stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, The Hunt, Doctor Strange), Thomas Bo Larsen (The Hunt, The Lawyer, Veni Vidi Vici), Lars Ranthe (A Funny Man, Adam’s Apples, The Hunt), and Magnus Millang (Heavy Load, The Commune, Danish Dynamite). The script was co-written by Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm (The Hunt).
What was Another Round about?
In Another Round, four friends, all teachers at various stages of middle age, are stuck in a rut. Unable to share their passions either at school or at home, they embark on an audacious experiment from an obscure philosopher: to see if a constant level of alcohol in their blood will help them find greater freedom and happiness. At first they each find a new-found zest, but as the gang pushes their experiment further, issues that have been simmering for years come to a head and the men are faced with a choice: reckon with their behavior or continue on the same course.
