Top Gun: Maverick’s Lewis Pullman is Marvel’s top choice to replace Steven Yeun in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Pullman is currently being eyed to replace Yeun in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. The actor has an offer for the role, though the casting has not yet been officially announced at this time.
While Yeun’s casting was also never officially announced by Marvel, reports claiming that the Beef star would appear in the MCU movie began circling in February 2023. In November 2023, The Walking Dead and Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that Yeun was going to play The Sentry/Bob Reynolds in the film.
Yeun, however, ultimately walked away from the project earlier this month. Citing scheduling conflicts following delays caused by the Hollywood strikes as his reason for leaving, Yeun said, via Variety, “I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it. But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”

Along with playing Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, Pullman has starred in 2017’s Lean on Pete, 2017’s Battle of the Sexes, 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night, 2018’s Bad Times at the El Royale, 2019’s Them That Follow, and 2023’s The Starling Girl, among other titles.
He’s also attached to play Ben Mears in the upcoming Salem’s Lot remake and will appear in Dito Montiel’s crime thriller Riff Raff, neither of which have release dates at this time.
Directed by Schreier, Thunderbolts stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, David Harbout as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.
