The Accountant 2 will begin filming in 2024.
Per Deadline, Ben Affleck is scheduled to film a sequel to 2016’s The Accountant in 2024. The news comes after it was announced that Affleck will direct Matt Damon in a new Netflix crime thriller, Animals, which will go into production before The Accountant 2.
A sequel to The Accountant was announced to be in development in 2017 but wasn’t officially green-let until 2021. Gavin O’Connor, who helmed the original movie, is returning to direct.
“There’s more to be explored with this character,” O’Connor told ComingSoon shortly before The Accountant’s release. “What excites me is that, most franchises are IPs that people know about. Books or comic books and super heroes. This is entirely original and that’s what I loved about it. This is sort of his origin story. Even though no one has a comic book to read or a book to read or a graphic novel. This is all brand new for everybody. If it works and people want it and there’s an appetite for it, there’s more stories to be told.”
Who starred in 2016’s The Accountant?
Affleck played Christian Wolff in The Accountant, which also starred Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Jeffrey Tambor, John Lithgow, and Jean Smart.
The synopsis for the film reads, “Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. With a Treasury agent (J.K. Simmons) hot on his heels, Christian takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise.”
The Accountant is currently streaming on DIRECTV, TNT, TBS, and truTV. A release date for The Accountant 2 has not yet been announced.
