Milly Alcock, Meg Donnelly Screen Tested for DC’s Supergirl, Will Appear in Superman: Legacy

Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly have both formally auditioned for the role of DC’s Supergirl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both screen tested for the role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El with James Gunn and Peter Safran in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Hollywood Reporter’s article also states that Supergirl will appear in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy before she goes on to star in her own solo movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

A director for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has not yet been announced, though Ana Nogueira is writing the script. The film will be based on the eight-issue comic book limited series of the same published in 2021-2022 by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely.

What have Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly starred in before?

Alcock is known for playing Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon. 

Donnelly, meanwhile, played Taylor Otto in ABC’s American Housewife. She’s also starred in the Disney Channel’s Zombie movie franchise, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and The CW’s Supernatural spin-off, The Winchesters. Additionally, Donnelly previously voiced Supergirl in the 2023 Legion of Super-Heroes animated movie. She’ll reprise the role in the upcoming Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two animated films.

Further details regarding Superman: Woman of Tomorrow remain under wraps at this time. Superman: Legacy is being written and directed by Gunn, with production scheduled to begin in March 2024. The movie will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Superman: Legacy releases in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
