What is Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle about?
“Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie,” the official synopsis reads. “But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.”
Along with the aforementioned cast, Argylle stars Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, and Samuel L. Jackson. The cat, Alfie, is meanwhile played by Chip, the real-life feline who belongs to supermodel Claudia Vaughn.
Argylle was written by Jason Fuchs, who also produces the movie alongside Vaughn and David Reid. Executive producers include Adam Fishbach, Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, and Claudia Vaughn.
Vaughn is known for directing 2004’s Layer Cake, 2007’s Stardust, 2010’s Kick-Ass, 2011’s X-Men: First Class, 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and 2021’s The King’s Man. The movie is rated PG-13, meaning that it is Vaughn’s first movie that isn’t rated R since X-Men: First Class.
Argylle releases in United States theaters on February 2, 2024, from Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films. It will premiere on Apple TV+ at a later date.
