Two more big names have joined the Minecraft cast for the upcoming movie adaptation of the enormously successful video game.
Deadline has revealed that SNL alum Kate McKinnon and Flight of the Conchords co-creator Jemaine Clement have joined the cast of the Minecraft movie. The duo now stand alongside quite a few major actors who have also signed on for the film, including Jason Momoa, Jennifer Coolidge, Jack Black, Matt Berry, and more.
Plot details for the Minecraft movie are being kept under wraps at this time. The movie is being produced by Mary Parent, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick, while Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts serve as executive producers.
When is the Minecraft movie coming out?
The live-action Minecraft movie is currently scheduled to release in United States theaters on April 4, 2025, from Warner Bros. It is being directed by Jared Hess, who previously made 2004’s Napoleon Dynamite, 2006’s Nacho Libre, and 2015’s Masterminds, among others.
The smash hit video game was released in 2011 and became a global phenomenon, selling over 300 million copies. Its success led to Microsoft acquiring Mojang for $2.5 billion. A film based on the series has been in the works for several years, with Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney among those previously attached.
