Netflix announced The Beautiful Game, an upcoming soccer drama starring Academy Award nominee Bill Nighy, will premiere on March 29, 2024. The streamer also released a first-look image.
What to Expect in The Beautiful Game?
The Beautiful Game depicts an English soccer team’s journey to The Homeless World Cup, an event that champions the end of homelessness through sport. Established in 2001, the Homeless World Cup Foundation supports homeless people and advocates for the fortunate to change their attitudes towards people experiencing homelessness. Nighy stars as Mal, the English team’s coach, while BAFTA nominee Micheal Ward stars as Vinny, a talented player and late addition to the squad.
“The Beautiful Game follows a team of English homeless footballers, led by their coach Mal (Nighy), who travel from London to Rome to compete in a global annual football tournament – The Homeless World Cup,” Netflix’s official synopsis reads. “At the last minute, they decide to bring with them a talented striker, Vinny (Ward), but he must confront his own issues and once-promising past in order to help the team win the cup and move on with his own life. In Rome, just as in life, everything’s to play for.”
The Beautiful Game’s ensemble features Sheyi Cole, Valeria Golino, Callum Scott Howells, Kazuhiro Muroyama, Robin Nazari, Aoi Okuyama, Cristina Rodlo, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Tadashi Watanabe, Susan Wokoma, and Kit Young.
