The Michael release date for Lionsgate’s highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic from Antoine Fuqua has been revealed.
The upcoming Jaafar Jackson-led film will release in theaters on April 18, 2025, putting its release at just over a year and three months away. Production on the movie is set to begin on Monday, January 22, 2024.
“Michael Jackson was inarguably one of the greatest entertainers of all time,” stated Adam Fogelson, Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “His impact on music, video, art, fashion, culture — and so much more — was extraordinary and is still profoundly relevant. I can’t wait for audiences to be able to see this film in theaters worldwide next year.”
“I’m so honored to tell Michael’s story,” producer Graham King said. “It’s been a long journey and I’m excited for the film to show audiences around the world a perspective of Michael that they’ve never seen.”
Michael will be directed by Antoine Fuqua from a screenplay written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan. It will star Jaafar Jackson, who is the nephew of Michael Jackson himself.

Michael Jackson is considered one of the greatest musical artists of all time and is best known for a number of iconic songs including “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” “Man in the Mirror,” and more. Throughout his life, Jackson won countless awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, among other accomplishments. In 2009, he passed away at the age of 50 due to cardiac arrest.
