Steven Yeun Reportedly Reteaming With Minari Director for New Romance Movie

Steven Yeun is reportedly reteaming with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung for a new romance movie.

According to Indiewire, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI author David Grann is writing a “small love story” for Lee Isaac Chung to direct. It will star Yeun, who played the lead role in Minari, and be produced by Parasite director Bong Joon-ho.

Further details are not available at this time.

What is Minari about?

Released in 2020, Minari saw Yeun play Jacob Yi, a Korean immigrant who moves his family to rural Arkansas to start a small produce farm. The movie also starred Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate, Will Patton, and Youn Yuh-jung, the latter of whom won Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards.

“A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream,” the official synopsis reads. “The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.”

Minari was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Chung is also directing the upcoming Twister sequel, Twisters, which releases in United States theaters on July 19, 2024. The Walking Dead and Invincible’s Yeun, meanwhile, recently made headlines for dropping out of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts movie due to scheduling conflicts caused by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes.

Chung and Yeun’s movie does not yet have a release date. Minari is currently streaming on Netflix.
