Henry Cavill is set to play a super spy in the upcoming action comedy Argylle. Cavill is no stranger to secret agents, having once been a finalist to play James Bond in Casino Royale before ultimately losing the role to Daniel Craig. Cavill’s name continues to be mentioned as a potential replacement for Craig.
Could Cavill play Agent Argylle and Bond at the same time? Cavill believes his future as 007 is up to Bond’s producers.
“It’s a fun character,” Cavill said to Total Film. “Whether I’m ruled out of Bond because of this or not is up to Barbara Broccoli and Mr. Wilson.”
What to Expect in Argylle?
Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the author behind spy novels featuring Cavill’s Agent Argylle. Sam Rockwell stars as Aiden Wilde, an undercover spy tasked with saving Elly from being kidnapped and killed.
The official synopsis reads: “Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”
Argylle’s ensemble includes Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who created The Kingsman franchise. Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) penned the script and produced alongside Vaughn, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. Argylle is scheduled to be released in theaters by Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films on February 2, 2024. It will then stream to Apple TV+ at a later date.
