What happened with Coyote vs. Acme?
Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch (with the story coming from Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater), Coyote vs. Acme was filmed in February 2022 and was originally going to be released theatrically on July 21, 2023; however, Warner Bros. Discovery removed the film’s release date in April 2022.
In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it was shelving the movie for a $30 million tax write-down, a controversial movie the studio previously utilized for films such as Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
Following much public backlash, Warner Bros. Discovery opted to let Coyote vs. Acme’s filmmakers shop the movie around at other studios. According to a Deadline article from December 2023, Netflix and Paramount both made bids to acquire Coyote vs. Acme, while Amazon Studios was considering placing a bid as well. Sony and Apple both passed on making bids.
Along with Forte and Bauza, Coyote vs. Acme stars John Cena and Lana Condor.
“After all of the products made by ACME Corporation backfire on Wile E. Coyote, in his pursuit of the Road Runner, he hires an equally unlucky human attorney to sue the company,” the film’s synopsis reads. “When Wile E.’s lawyer finds out that his former law firm’s intimidating boss is ACME’s CEO, he teams up with Wile E. to win the court case against him.”
Coyote vs. Acme does not yet have a release date.
