Warner Bros. Discovery has won the auction for the rights to Calamity Hustle, the upcoming action comedy film starring Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum. Other cast members are currently unknown.
According to a recent report from Deadline, the company beat out major studios including Amazon, Netflix, and others for the movie. The report mentions that the spec script for the film is likened to movies like Lethal Weapon and that the hope is to “launch a franchise.”
Reynolds’ next films will be in the upcoming 2023 film IF as well as the highly anticipated Deadpool 3. Tatum’s next role will be in the thriller film Pussy Island, as well as Greg Berlanti’s Project Artemis.
What do we know about Calamity Hustle?
Calamity Hustle will be directed and written by the Nee brothers, and will star Reynolds as “a down-on-his-luck former Los Angeles detective-turned-private investigator who, after being shaken down by a vicious crime lord, must track down his estranged brother who is responsible for interfering with a diamond heist.”
Reynolds and Tatum are also serving as producers under their respective production companies Maximum Effort and Free Association. The Nee brothers and Kevin Walsh will also be producing through their Persons Attempting banner.
Aaron and Adam Nee previously worked with Tatum on the 2022 romantic action-adventure comedy film The Lost City.
